Historic ski race in Abertamy: When sport comes alive with tradition
The weekend in Abertamy was not only about great sports performance, but also about history. The traditional historical cross-country skiing race once again took athletes and spectators back several decades, when skiers in period gear raced on the snowy plains of the Ore Mountains. However, this year, the race had an exceptional participant – three-time Olympic medalist Lukáš Bauer!
Lukáš Bauer in period ski clothing for the first time
One of the most successful Czech cross-country skiers tried out what it was like to race in the past. Lukáš Bauer put on a traditional wool sweater, put on wooden cross-country skis and set off on the track alongside other enthusiasts. “It was a completely different feeling than on modern skis. But the atmosphere of the race and the enthusiasm of everyone around made it an unforgettable experience,” he said after the race.
Sedlecký Kaolin as a proud partner of the event
This unique sporting event, which combines history and a love of cross-country skiing, has a long tradition in the region. Sedlecký Kaolin was a proud partner of this race, because supporting local sports and cultural activities is as important to us as caring for the landscape and sustainable development of the Karlovy Vary Region.
Connecting sport, tradition and community
The race was not just about speed, but mainly about the atmosphere, the joy of sport and the connection of people who share the enthusiasm for cross-country skiing and regional traditions. Spectators along the course cheered on the competitors in historical costumes, children had the opportunity to try out old skiing techniques and the entire event was marked by a great mood and a shared experience.
